Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will hold its
23rd annual Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday 22, 2007 from 9:00 AM to
3:00 PM at the Waddill Outdoor Education Center on Flannery Rd in Baton
Rouge. LBBS will have a booth to display nestbox systems (poles and
guards included) and distribute information sheets. Anyone is welcome
to show up and help "man" the booth or enjoy the many facets of involvement
with nature! The event is free and open to the public.

LSU Museum of Natural Sciences "Special Saturday"
Program - This monthly children's program will focus on birds for the
Saturday, April 26, 2008 presentation and LBBS will be involved.

Louisiana Bayou
Bluebird Society
held its 2007 Annual Meeting on September 15, 2007, between 9:30
AM and 1:00 PM at the LSU Museum of Natural Science, located in
Foster Hall on the campus of LSU, Baton Rouge, LA. Registration begins at
9:30 AM and at 10:00 AM, there will be tours of the museum facilities
including behind-the-scenes species preparation and storage areas. One of
the largest university natural history museums in the country, it holds over
2.5 million specimens including several Ivory-billed Woodpeckers. The
business meeting took place between 11:00 A.M. and Noon followed by
speaking presentations by museum director, Dr. Fred Sheldon. Door
prizes included tickets to that night’s LSU football game, a pair of
birding binoculars, and four bluebird nestbox systems
(including pole and predator guard!). This event was free and open to the
public. Space was limited and participants had to pre-register by
September 7th. Winners of football tickets were announced by
that date to accommodate participants in their plans.

Sabine Parish Master Gardner’s “Down
and Dirty II” Seminar --
The public
was invited to attend; admission fee (lunch included) was
$10.00.Toledo Lion’s Club, 29275 Hwy 191, Many, LA, February 24, 2007 featuring: Bluebirds – Speaker: Evelyn Cooper (Louisiana Bayou Bluebird
Society) Bluebird boxes with a year’s membership to LBBS included were
available for $15.00. Herbs – Speaker:
Beth Stringer (Many Garden Club) and Cathy McCurdy, Master
Gardner.

LBBS Nestbox Workshop and Fall Event
(Monroe Area) -- James Berry conducted a nestbox workshop on September
16, 2006 at the Black Bayou Lake NWR Conservation Learning Center in
Monroe.6 from 10:00 until 12 Noon. That afternoon, LBBS held its
annual meeting and Fall Event with our guest speaker, James Berry from
Clinton, AR who presented his nestbox design and trail management tactics to
an attentive group. New officers and directors were voted for and
installed. Awards went to 2006 Bluebirder of the Year, Jimmy Orr (Oak
Grove, LA); Project Leader of the
Year, Elizabeth Hoyt (Cheneyville, LA); and a Certificate of Appreciation to
John Tidwell (Monroe, LA).

LBBS Spring Celebration and Workshop (Baton Rouge
Area) -- LBBS conducted a nestbox workshop on May 6, 2006 from 10:00 until 12:00
at Waddill Wildlife Refuge Center, 4142 North Flannery Rd in Baton Rouge.
For the afternoon spring Celebration, our guest speaker was Nancy Newfield,
Louisiana's own hummingbird expert. Her books, "Hummingbird Gardens"
and "Enjoying Hummingbirds More" were sold and signed afterwards.

LBBS Nestbox
Workshop and Fall Event (Monroe Area) -- LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY conducted a Bluebird
Nestbox Workshop on Saturday, November 12, 2005, at the Black Bayou National
Wildlife Refuge, north of Monroe, LA. That afternoon,
LBBS held its annual meeting and Fall
Celebration. NABS treasurer, Gary Springer delivered comments on
NABS's new offices and plans for the future. Kenny Kleinpeter, vice president of LBBS
and
LBBS 2004 Bluebirder of the Year, bluebird trail monitor and purple
martin expert was the guest speaker. He spoke on
attracting and managing secondary cavity nesters with emphasis on bluebirds,
purple martins and
wood ducks.

Workshop and Spring Event (Baton Rouge Area) -- LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY conducted a Bluebird
Nestbox Workshop on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Waddill Wildlife Refuge
Center, 4142 North Flannery Road, Baton Rouge, LA. That afternoon,
LBBS held its Spring

HODGES
GARDENS HOST BLUEBIRD SEMINAR --
LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY conducted a Bluebird Seminar on April 23
at Hodges Gardens, Many, LA. At 10:00 a
presentation on the Basics of Bluebirding was presented by Evelyn
Cooper, President of LBBS and officer, Sheryl Bassi. A Nestbox Workshop
was held for several attendees following the presentation.
- LBBS Nestbox Workshop (Monroe Area) -- Louisiana
Bayou Bluebird Society held a nestbox workshop on October 16, 2004
in conjunction with the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge Fall
Celebration, north of Monroe. The workshop was from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM
where over 12 attendees learned to build
and monitor their own nestbox and received a membership to LBBS.

Annual Meeting --
The Louisiana Bayou Bluebird Society held a
nestbox construction workshop on September 4, 2004 at Biedenharn Museum & Gardens
in Monroe, La.
Over
30
participants
built
their
first
nestbox
and
received
one-year
memberships
to
LBBS.
LBBS
president,
Evelyn
Cooper
presented
facts
and
techniques
for
attracting
and
managing
bluebirds.
After
lunch,
over 30 members of LBBS held the 3rd annual membership meeting which
included a most educational presentation by acclaimed naturalist, Keith
Kridler on the many cavity-nesting birds in the Louisiana area.
Keith Kridler, past
Vice President and co-founder of Texas Bluebird Society, past board member of
the NABS, co-author of "The Bluebird Monitor's
Guide" and bluebird expert signed copies of his book and answered any and
all questions of the membership.
- Nestbox Workshop and LBBS Spring
2004 Event --
LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY held a workshop on April 17, 2004, at the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, 10503
North Oak Hills Pkwy, Baton Rouge, LA from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM to learn to
put together nestboxes (supplied nestboxes limited to 25). This included a membership to LBBS.
Following the workshop was the Spring Event from 2:00 until 5:00 PM. Beau Gast,
from Folsom, LA was the featured speaker. He is Vice President of Louisiana
Wildlife Rehabilitators Association, associated with National Wildlife
Rehabbers Association, International Wildlife Association and the Humane
Society of the United States. He is a practicing rehabilitator at Clear Water
Wildlife Sanctuary, Covington, LA. Door Prizes were awarded and the
public was invited to attend.
- Nestbox Workshop and LBBS 2003 Annual Meeting --
LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY held a
workshop on January 31, 2004 from 10 AM until 12:30 PM at Robert E. Lee Jr.
High School, 1600 North 19th St, Monroe, LA. This included membership to
LBBS. Afterwards, LBBS held its 2nd Annual meeting at Robert
E. Lee Jr. High School, 1600 North 19th St,
Monroe, LA. Speaker was Dr. Shirl Brunell, from Texarkana, AR
- Nestbox Workshop and Spring Event --
LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY held a
workshop on September 20, 2003 at the Robert E. Lee Jr. High School, 1600
North 19th St, Monroe, LA. Professor Robert Rickett, retired, University of Louisiana-Monroe was the
featured speaker. Door prizes were awarded and the public was invited to
attend.
- LBBS Fall Event -- LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD
SOCIETY held its Fall Event on November 2, 2002 at the
Robert E. Lee Jr. High School, 1600 North 19th
St, Monroe, LA. Dave Cagnolatti, LBBS was the featured speaker.
Door prizes were awarded and the public was invited to attend.
- LBBS 2002 Annual Meeting -- LOUISIANA BAYOU BLUEBIRD SOCIETY held
its 1st Annual meeting at the Waddill Refuge Center, Baton Rouge, LA.
The guest speaker was Tena Taylor, of Mississippi Bluebirds and member of
NABS Speakers Bureau.
